How are you involved in dance these days?

I am a current sophomore at Point Park University majoring in dance. I dance at school, at intensives and when I am home on breaks I like to train at my home studio.

How did your dance training help you as you entered college/university?

I wouldn’t be at Point Park if it wasn’t for my studio. I am so thankful for my studio director and teachers who gave me so many opportunities and prepared me for my college experience.

Who most inspires you?

The thing that inspires me the most is other dancers who love to dance. Dancing at Point Park has been so incredibly inspiring because I get to train with so many talented people who love to dance. The energy in the classes inspires me and pushes me to be the best dancer I can be.

What are some memorable moments from your dance competition experience?

If I had to pick one favorite moment from my dance competition experience I would have to pick my senior year, performing my solo at the last competition. I got that feeling every dancer hopes to have when they’re onstage, and it was a great way to end my competition experience.

Do you have any advice for aspiring younger dancers?

As clich├ęd as it sounds, “never give up.” There have been so many times in my life where I wanted to give up and because I persevered I accomplished more than I thought I could. You are going to hear “no” so many more times than “yes” and that is okay. You just have to push through and ultimately everything will work out. Another piece of advice that I have is be true to yourself. There is only one you and no one does you better than you.

Do you have hobbies or other creative outlets besides dance?

When I am not dancing I love to cook, go to the gym and play with my dog, Scout.

Do you have any favorite personal quotes?

Hands down “Everything happens for a reason.” I live by this quote and wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason.
